Update May 2019
Well, dear reader, contrary to my ambitious pledge in March 2016 to give a full and regular update in frequent newsletters I have allowed some three years to drift by without putting a finger to the keyboard. The delay is inexcusable and I beg your indulgence. I have a new web manager, a bright and energetic young man, so I suspect I shall be pushed for more regular News Letters and other material.
The first, and saddest, news is the price increases I spoke about previously have now come into effect as from the 1st May 2019. I did try to hold off this rise as long as possible, but rising costs in Thailand make such an adjustment inevitable. On average painting prices have risen by around 12.5%.
Some categories have not risen at all and some have actually fallen slightly as I reconsidered the pricing on these items. However, most categories have risen in price. The 15/18mm category has risen the most and this reflects the cost of getting high-quality painting completed here by local artists. This increase is unavoidable. For those that collect this scale, I do hope the price rise remains within your budget.
The shop here in Thailand continues to buzz along with activity, we have had a busy year so far. The American market, in particular, has risen spectacularly thanks in large part to the efforts of my agent there, Mr Jacob Kovel of Silver Eagle Wargame Supplies. Our American customers will see Jacob and his family at all the major shows in America, so look out for him and the Silver Eagle Wargame Supplies team when you attend the shows.
For those who are new customers, welcome, for established and regular customers we are happy to enjoy your continued support and patronage in 2019.
In the UK, and in Europe, Mr Gary Edwards and his wife, Mrs Hayley Edwards, and their company Red Eagle Miniatures, continue to provide a first class service as agents there.
Coming soon will be painted units on direct sale from the workshop. Sadly, the cost of ready painted units has had to rise recently, but remain competitively priced. The standard infantry units will remain at twenty-four figures per unit and will be priced at $9.00 per figure, or $216.00 per unit. The cavalry units will remain at 12 figure per unit and will cost $18.00 per figure, or $216.00 per unit. Artillery will continue to retail as one gun with four gunners; the price will rise from $50.00 per gun (and four gunners) to $54.00 per gun (and four gunners. Mounted command will rise from $20.00 per figure to $22.50 per figure.
As units become available I will display them on the “For Sale” page. These units will be relatively random and will reflect stock that is being painted up at any given time. I will be aiming to offer full regiments and brigades for sale so that gamers can build their collections based on historic regiments and brigades.
I am also hopeful we shall soon be able to offer new ranges of Fantasy figures, Wild West figures, World War II figures, Congo/Darkest Africa figures, and other skirmish game figures like Steam Punk and Dracula in America. We shall be starting the fantasy range with Frostgrave, the Wild West with “Dead Man’s Hands” figures, and WWII with some Bolt Action German, American and British figures. I hope to move into other areas as time allows.
That brings me to a conclusion for now. If you want to place a painting order then please don’t hesitate to contact one of my agents. If you are interested in painted units then please contact us at email@example.com.

Update: March 2016.
Well, for those that read my comments back in November 2014 I do apologise. I have been absent from one of my major tasks, namely running and updating this site. The good news is we have been very busy as customer orders have come in. The even better news is we are set to significantly expand our ready painted units for sale over the summer of 2016.
The list of ready painted units available will continue to grow through our agents (Jacob Kovel at Silver Eagle Wargame Supplies in the USA, and Gary Edwards at Red Eagle Miniatures in the UK and Europe). We will also be offering units for sale on our ‘For Sale’ page and on E-Bay. I will keep you updated on what is being painted and what is for sale.
Coming up by summer 2016 will be ACW infantry, cavalry and artillery in 28mm by 1st Corps. 1st Corps will hold a limited range of these figures as stock. In the Ancient area there will be Early Imperial Romans, Greeks, Celts/Gauls, and Ancient Germans in 28mm by Wargames Foundry, Warlord Games and West Wind. There will also be more French, Austrian, British, and Bavarian 28mm Napoleonics by Front Rank.
Ian Hinds, who is known to many in the UK, Europe and the USA, is now selling painted units from his Hinchliffe range. Ian has started with French Line Infantry, but this will expand. See his website for details. Also Simon and Michael Curtey of Curtey Miniatures are now carrying painted units from their WWII and Medievals range. They have started with German late war infantry squads and some British Paras. Speak to them about up coming units, or place orders with them for their stock to be painted by us.
The sad news is Rick O’Brien has ceased to be an agent. Rick and Amanda have grown increasingly busy with their main business selling superb model flags as The Flag Dude. Rick felt he could not properly split his time between selling his flags and our painted units. I wish continued success to Rick and Amanda. For those that are unaware, Jacob Kovel will continue as the main and sole agent for all Big Battalions units and painting commissions in the USA.
I am sad to announce there will have to be a price increase for painting commissions which will come into effect on 1st June 2016. Any orders placed prior to that date will be painted at the old price.
Well, that is my update for now. My next news will be shortly, and certainly I will not be absent for a year again. Happy Gaming!
I am slowly getting use to building this restructured website and will continue to add to it as time allows. I intend to start writing a reasonably regular news column detailing what we are up to and new things we are covering. This will be particularly important to those who like to buy ready painted units. I will also keep you updated on news from our agents and what they are up to. The big news is I have finally retired, after thirty two years practicing as a barrister, and hacking round the criminal courts of the north west of England, and not forgetting the Immigration Tribunals, I have finally hung up my wig and called it a day. The disgraceful cuts to legal aid which is ongoing did push me a little to make good on my long held desire to move to Thailand and assist my business partner, Khun Poramet Pramunwong, to run the business. So here I am, retired!! I deal with the sales side, updating the website, and dealing with agents. Poramet runs the shop day to day.
Big Battalions is based in Chiang Mai for those that do not know. We employ local people and they produce the painting under the supervision and direction of my business partner, Poramet. I do all the uniform research and deal with customer orders, instructions and queries.
So some wargame news. I would remind those that do not know, and are based in America, I have an agent based in Simsbury, Connecticut. Jacob Kovel runs Silver Eagle Wargame Supplies from Simsbury, Connecticut and is very happy to either sell ready painted units, that is ready to take straight out of the box and play with direct onto the table. Jacob carries a growing and varied stock of ready painted units. Jacob is also the US agent for all painting commissions. Anything Jacob doesn’t have in stock I am sure we can supply in a reasonable time.
For those with a keen eye you will also have noticed there has been a rethink on the prices for 40mm and 54mm figure painting. I have considered this long and hard and have decided the prices set some time ago can not be justified. I have therefore significantly reduced the prices for these two categories of painting. I am sure this news will be most welcome to those who have been thinking of having their 40mm armies painted or wish to indulge in collecting 54mm figures. Please look at our painting prices and consult your local agents if you wish to place orders for these two categories of painting.
So happy wargaming and collecting and watch this space for news of what is new.
